Ophthalmic Medical Technology at Palm Beach State College Help improve people’s vision in this rewarding health care profession. Ophthalmic medical technologists assist ophthalmologists—eye physicians and surgeons—in evaluating vision and treating patients with eye disorders. Working directly with patients, they take medical histories, assess optical correction, assist in surgeries and perform specialized testing using advanced diagnostic instrumentation. Palm Beach State College is one of a small number of institutions in the U.S. that offer an Associate in Science degree in this growing field.

This clinical two-year program combines classroom instruction with hands-on training with the latest equipment in the College’s fully functional ophthalmic examination room, surgical suite and laboratory. Students develop technical proficiency under the supervision of board-certified ophthalmologists, optometrists and opticians, as well as through clinical externships in local ophthalmic practices, clinics and surgical centers.
